Now that I had been in Delhi for a day, and skipped the two days trip to
Jaipur I'd planned, my schedule was back on track. I flew from Dehli to
Jodhpur, and intended to take a car or train to Jaisalmer. But I was feeling
poorly, it was 95oF/35oC, and I was feeling badly from
the smoke incident the night before. Knowing it would be even
hotter in
the desert, I started to wonder if going to Jaisalmer was a good idea or not.
Then I found that it was a longer trip than I'd thought- It would take the
better part of a day to drive there, or it'd be a red-eye train trip all night
to get there, and another to get back (to the airport). That clinched it-
Going to Jaisalmer would have been insane at this point. It took a microsecond
for me to decide to call and cancel my hotel in Jaisalmer, and look for one
here in Jodhpur. I found Ratan Vilas.
Now, you wouldn't know it up to now, but I take pictures of all the hotels and rooms in which I stay. Since I've taken SO many pictures this trip, there was no need to post them all and bore you with them. But this one was different- It was beautiful, and at the same time both modern and somewhat older-feeling, being furnished in a colonial India manner. So here are some photos of it. I wasn't able to stay both of my two nights in Jodhpur, as they were booked up the next night. But it solved my problem of "Where will I stay TONIGHT?" The one odd thing about my room was the bed- It was really TWO beds pushed together. Each were shorter than I am tall, so I had to sleep diagonally. But each bed had its OWN set of sheets. It was interesting with one set of sheets on my legs, and another on my torso. When I mentioned this to the manager the next day, he asked "Why didn't you tell me? We'd have changed them for you!" I replied that I was simply too tired at the time, and it wasn't a big deal. Besides, the bed(s) was quite comfortable. |
