Yes Kelly you did get raped. I've checked mine twice and it only took 3 hrs.,
and Im not a professional mechanic. I'd like to see what the flat rate hours
is on a valve adjust. Even at $50.00/hr. that's 6 hrs' labor?????? The tool
is Yamaha # Y/M-33961 and is available from Kent-Moore (800) 345-2233. They
won't sell direct, you have to go to a Yamaha dealer. My local dealer in
Ocala wouldn't sell it to me. Guess they want to rape every one. Kent moore
sent me to Competition Acc. (937) 323-0513. Ordered it over the phone, about
$32.00 including shipping. (Ithink that's close). With a shop manual. feeler
guages, and the tool, you can do it yourself. You'll also need a micrometer
or vernier calipers to measure the shims once they are out. They are marked,
but I'd measure them just in case. I'd only use Yamaha shims as the shim is
over the bucket and the cam lobe runs directly on the shim. If the shim is
not the required hardness, you could wipe out a cam lobe. Now that's
expensive. I think the shims are only $3-4.00 dollars. My V-maz has 58,000
miles, checked them twice and are in spec. Good luck. Scott VMOA #500.

The bike has to cool for 7 hours min. before the valves could be =
adjusted, but i wouldnt think that would effect the price.
