I've managed to break my gear selector again (second time) and I know several other people that have also encountered the same problem so I thought some of you might find this of interest. The first time I lost first and neutral. The second time I got stuck in first (much worse). Both times a tab had come off the washer and one of the pins had come out of the selector drum. At least it is reasonably easy to fix. In the course of fixing it this time (thanks to 'H' and the team at Exactrep for the help) we discovered that Yamaha have redesigned the end of the selector drum and done away with the tab washer that was the main cause of the failure. If you have a problem with gear selection, always check the selector drum (behind the clutch) before getting carried away stripping things down. The modified part replaces the whole end of the selector drum and can be retro-fitted without further dismantling. I don't know when the change was made or the part number of the modified part, sorry. Justin L did a rebuild on my transmission in Feb of this year and when he ordered a shift drum he got the new single piece one, that was the first time he said he had seen it. Among other things my transmission was suffering from a hole in that washer the pins go in being ovaled out so the pin was wallowing arround.
