Subject: Re: Vmax spark plug wires Lucky man, Arnold - 7k miles and no rain! Curious to read more about your trip! You can actually replace the wires themselves with aftermarket automotive wires. Buy two long pre-configured leads and thread them in the existing caps and coils. The original spark plug caps for the wires are outrageously expensive ($40 a pc.) from the dealer - no surprise. Hope you find some used ones. Automotive ones have different sockets to attach to the spark plugs, and the NGK ones are a little short (if you even can find straight ones). You can actually pull the boot off the original plastic cap - wonder if there is some alternative available that fits over the cap. Bert --------- Subject: Re: Vmax spark plug wires Arnold, you can get NGK replacement caps for around 2.50-3.00 apeice. If you can't get them there I can send you some. Don "Old Man" Smith --------------- Phil BTW I used normal plug wire for replacements(3 bucks maybe) and corrosion has always been my biggest problem. The boot should be 10K ohm and have seen that get flakey from time to time also. ---------------- Decent plug wire can be purchased in bulk (or cut to the necessary length by the dealership or parts store) for a small amount of $$. Also, NGK makes OEM replacement end-caps (or suppressor caps) for about $5 a piece, so you can replace all wires and end caps for about $25-$30 w/ as good or better components than stock. - -- Justin Lassy mailto:Vmaxtuner@earthlink.net ----------------- From: "jensp.c2i.net" Subject: Re: Vmax SPARK PLUG WIRES.max SPARK PLUG WIRES. The rubber boots on the bottom of the NGKs are a slighly smaller diamter than the stockers...usually, if the boots on the stockers are in OK shape, I'll transfer those to the NGKs. ---------------------- Subject: Re: Vmax aftermarket products On 8 Apr 99, at 18:14, Timothy_Avery@vanguard.com wrote: > Hi gang, do any of you have experience with Nology hot wires, Yes, don't waste the high price, just get some Accel or whatever silicone solid or spiral core 7mm wire from the auto parts, you only need about 3 ft total. ------------------ From: "Robb&Zabb" Subject: Re: Vmax aftermarket products Just make sure that U stay away from the accel "carbon core" wires they look really good being yellow and all but they do not last very long.. also if you happen to bend them to much while installing they will break... Robb '85 Flamemax ----------------- >>>>Hey John...Glad to hear you've got Mr.Max back on all 4. If you can't find a donut for your plug wire, you can also use a rubber band. Just press the wire all the way into the coil and mark it just above the opening. Then take a mediun size rubber band, place the coil cap onto the wire, then loop the rubber band multiple times until it forms a nice hump about the same size as the donut. Jim
