> #4 cobra slip on vs kerker full system in terms of Hp BWA Ha Ha Kerker makes about 15hp more than cobras. Hindle is even slightly better than Kerker. Stock muffler makes more HP than Cobras. - -Mike Sayers 1990 Yamaha Vmax Smithfield, NC ----------- Cobra slip-ons are designed for looks, NOT PERFORMANCE, the Kerker is way better than any slip-on on the market, the only drawback is, that you have to cut offthe centerstand mounting tabs, and put a jetting kit. ----------- From: oldmanvmaxd@webtv.net (donald smith) Subject: Re: Vmax Jetting Problems Vinny, you can get a Hindle for 535-540.00 from street and comp. Tell them you are a member VMOA. Any questions mention mine or Harry Clemens. If further assistance ask for Dan Bowen. You can put it on your self with just the tools in your bag. Do not change [carb jet] mains, but add a K&N to the box. Any more questions call me 281-584-0395. Don "Old Man" Smith ------------ Kelly, Here's what I did. It's a motor mount cover for Royal Star, others will work also. If you want I can send a close up shot, let me know. http://www.fastlane.net/~madvmax/chain1.jpg Vern ----------------- > Hello, > I'm thinking of getting a Hindle setup on my max. What's the difference between the glass pack > muffler and the stainless muffler? Never saw a stainless one. Have seen aluminum and Carbon Fiber. Be more concerned about core size. Try to get the 2" even though the shop may tell you that it is not available it is. What kind of jet kit would I need if > at all? You dont "need" any. It's the type of packing...fibre glass vs steel wool..I believe fibre does a slightly better job but doesn't last forever like the steel... cheers, Terry -------------- From: "A.J.Pace" Subject: Re: Vmax HINDLE > Dave, My Hindle has a COMP canister. A friend has the STEALTH. Both sound excellent with the difference being the COMP is at least a click louder at idle, and a full five clicks louder under acceleration. I do not feel one sounds BETTER than the other...just louder. Each produce that supercharged V-8 sound unique to our bikes. BOTH will cause any motor-head to turn and look at what is riding by. IF I never heard the COMP my first impression of the STEALTH would be it's a LOUD CANISTER. The COMP however is on the edge of "good neighbor acceptability", and should be pictured in Websters under LOUD. Interestingly enough tho, I have never had any trouble passing a N.J. State run Inspection, and some of those guys really break balls. Their look is much the same with the COMP being a shorter package, kind of a cut down STEALTH. The COMP will spit and backfire a bit after a quick throttle shut-down . This taking place after a rocket run. It's an audio phenomenon that has to be experienced to understand the pleasure sensor it activates. Not sure if the STEALTH can imitate that sensation. All in all be prepared to GRIN alot while feeling out your new pipe. The V-Max is a motor that sings so sweet its almost a CRIME AGAINST NATURE to leave the stock pipes on! Enjoy T VMOA #247 -------------- Subject: RE: Vmax Hindle exhausts Yup , she has the old style pipe (2.25" I think) instead of the newer quieter and lower performing 2" pipe . Go figure why hindle did that ? It's funny John Gainey said Hindle sent him the newer pipe to try out after they designed it and went into production to dyno test it . Not suprisingly it made less power than the older design . The only problem I had with it was not enough ground clearance (reason I went with Kerker) and the head pipes turned blue with my old 1260 hi comp engine after about 25 dyno runs . That however can be remedied by ceramic coating the pipes , this keeps the pipe looking beautiful forever even if you litterally bake the pipes (the only way drag bikes can keep headers looking good) . Also it prevents the Kerker from it's traditional disintrigation . Andre Avigdor ------------------- From: "Terry Hayden" Subject: Re: Vmax hindle centerstand and jetting Before I decided to remove the centre stand I simply attached a small nylon bumber where the centre stand "toe" contacts the SA. (I fabricated the bumber from a piece off of one of my wife's old nylon cutting boards- well actually it became one of her old one's after I was finished) Re the K&N..you will have to open up your stock box a little to gain any benefit of increased flow. Even raising the "Y" airhorn a little bit by shimming the mounting screws with washers makes a difference if you don't want to remove it... Terry ------------------- Subject: Re: Vmax Pipes There is a danger. If you do not jet carb's main jets to compensate you will end up running to lean therefore to hot. HEAT IS A LIMITING FACTOR! Luckily mine was repairable. --------------------------------- From: Mike Thigpen Subject: Re: Vmax Exhaust Systems V-Max Daniel, I have the Hindle with 16 inch canister and 2 inch core. It sounds like the bad ass it is when you get on it. The good thing about it though is that it is fairly quite while cruising at a steady speed of 60, 70 or so. Your Stock Pipes Can Sound Beautiful!!!!!! Enough of this "Fear" factor of Loss of Power --- OK, hear me well, 1. No Loss of Power to me -- ridden several 900RRs & not evident to me. 2. Rivets do Not Rust. 3. Look at the exhaust, if you look under the bike carefully, the exhausts are connected exactly like a Car ---- nothing is gonna get past it -- the Stock Exhaust is BIG & Heavy......... 4. I used titanium drill bits that were able to do the job -- about 4bucks & 8 bucks (1/4 & 1/2) for each respectively. 5. I removed the end caps (the 1999 caps are Black anyway & I left them off) --- then I put New Rivets in the 1/4 holes after I painted the exposed ends with Black Heat resistant paint. 6. The SOUND is all I wanted ..... not the expensive Pipes yet -- FEAR is your only enemy here & DYNOs can differ -- as noted on this List. 7. REMEMBER this is Reversible --- the ONLY THING you have to lose is Your Time .......... its like a Returnable Bottle. 8.
