Subject: ignition Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Vmax P.U. coils HELP!!! Well, my bike has joined the famous Vmax ignition gremlin club. So, going through the manual, the spark plug coils ohm'd out OK, and was about to ohm out the pickup coils. The manual states: 1) Remove seat. 2) Disconnect 5-pin connector (Black, White/Red, Orange, White/Green, and Gray). 3) Measure Pickup coil resistance: 110ohm +/-10%. O-B, O-Gy, O-W/G, O-W/R. (In a previous message, someone stated to replace the O with black, since black is the common, and the schematic does back this up). In the picture, the connector appears to in between the left frame & battery. I cannot find any 5-pin connector anywhere around there. But a few pages earlier, it shows to check pickup coil resistance at a connector that plugs into the right side of the TCI box. So where are you supposed to really check it? And where is this ellusive 5-pin connector "under the seat"? Rusty ---- Rusty, Go up to the TCI. It's much easier. Yes, the schematic is correct. The procedures (Color code) is wrong. Scott H. #351 --- Dude! For the second time: 1990 and up models don't have 4 pickup coils, only one. The connector is a TWO-PIN connector. It's on the left side, near the rear left corner of the battery, next to the vertical frame rail. The wires run down the frame, under the shaft-drive cover and into the flywheel cover. I never looked to see what colors the wires were. - -Mike Sayers 1990 Yamaha Vmax Smithfield, NC --- Mike the "Dude" wrote: >I never looked to see what colors the wires were.
