Subject: RE: Vmax Instrument Cowl The Instrument Cowl on my Max was causing an upward blast of air at high speeds. I had removed it for a while and then came up with the Idea of changing the angle. By tiping it forward about 10 degrees it does a much better job of actually breaking up the wind force against your body. I can also get a little repreive from the wind by leaaning forward onto my tank bag. Witout this mod I found that cowl unusable, it just felt like my helmet was being sucked upwards. To Make the modification, I got tw small stainless link plates from a marine store tha already had holes about the right size for the four countersunk screws that go through the polished aluminum trim peice and the plex and then through the bracket that attaches to the turn signal studs. I also got a set of six new stainless bolts with nylock nuts, slightly longer than the stock ones. So, youve got the mounting brackets mounted on the turn signals. Use the little plates to prop the rearmost set of holes up 3/4" or so. You'll have to bend the little plates into an s since there are a lot of funny angles working here... Anyway when I later added those little (shitty, cheap, krappy, junk) Lockhart turnsignals later I had no trouble because I had already made this mod.
