Of course you have to take the plugs out first. What is butyl trapezoid tape? It is very sticky butyl compound that comes in the cross section of a trapezoid in rolls separated by wax paper. It is used to seal flanged seams in cooling towers that hold water. Butyl has a high affinity for oil, not to mention dirt. A small piece can be used over and over and over again by kneading and folding the oil and dirt back into it. It will suck out dirt, oil and sludge from the tiniest nooks without sticking to the oily metal. I learned of this from an RC plane kit manufacturer that was buying this stuff by the case from me. He was putting a 12" strip in with all of his motor kits for cleaning the tiny motors. And not any type of butyl tape works. It must be the gray colored tape. PLEASE, do not ask me to sell this stuff, lest I be flamed!! You can buy it from any Baltimore Aircoil Co. representative located in major cities. Look in the yellow pages under cooling towers. Accept only the gray type tape. For VMOA members in S. FL, I will give you some for the asking if you meet me at Fud's on friday nights. No strings. (Note to Rusty: I will send you some with the seat and see how you like it.) Caution, it will pull off loose paint and anything else that is dry. And for god's sake, don't use it on a hot engine for obvious reasons. Take care.
