Mike/John/Jim:
my 95 Max is not picking up power off idle, sounds very rough running, just
like my old KZ when the ignition unit failed...
I was looking at either connector going into the TCI unit, and cannot
locate any white/green or white/red leads, as indicated in the schematic on
page 7-23.
Your e-mail mentioned "5-pin under seat", but there is no such connector,
or no green lead.

Looking into the connectors going into the TCI unit, I see the following:

6-connector
O-X-B/R
L/Y-B-B/Y

and the (it appears to be ignition coil wires, another error of the manual
on page 7-26):

8-connector
O-Gy-R/B-X
Y-W-B-X

where:
O = orange
X = no connect
B/R = black/red
L/Y = blue/yellow
B = black
Gy = grey
W = white
Y = yellow

B/R to B/Y of the 6-connector appears to be pressure sensor output, which
works fine at about 2V.
I have only identified one pick-up coil from B-O (6-connector) with 116
Ohms. Any other resistance to B is infinite. Resistance measuremnets on the
8-connector are all 4 Ohms, which is OK considering my wimpy probe wire
resistance.

The manual mentioned two pick-up coils, but the drawing shows four.

Where do I measure those p/u coils?

Thanks for any help.

Bert

90 & up Vmaxes only have a 2-pin connector under the seat, mine is
right by the rear left corner of the battery along the vertical frame
tube. This is because there is only one ignition pickup coil. I forget
what colors the wires are.

The TCI unit is also different. Your manual should have a supplement
with the newer info in it.
