Some hot spots along the way you might want to try next time: Closed, but still hot water hot springs swimming pool at Warm Springs; hot springs on BLM land outside Austin (12 miles east of Austin on 50 turn south toward Tonopah, but only go a few hundred feet, then left five miles, can't miss it); then, try the hot springs in Sierraville, CA (via 395 north out of Reno, ask in town for directions). Hooked up with Route 20 in Grass Valley, then home to Willits. I've got 6 hours of this trip on video, from a camera strapped to the tank bag mostly. Ate tons of chicken fried steak and drank too much Johny Walker. Early on that week we decided to eat chicken fried steak every meal. It's the Nevada State Breakfast actually. Called the video, "Run to Big Liver: A Chicken Fried Steak, Basin and Range Gestalt". Hope you stayed at the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah. As I recall it's about $35.00/night, and rooms are furnished with typical cowboy furniture of the 1800's. In fact, the whole place is typical wild west hotel, including the lousy food. But all in all a great place to stay. Thanks for reminding me of that wonderful trip. Sounds like you had a good time too.
