>Hmmm. I can't visualize it. Can you describe in greater detail where >they are? Need I remove any body parts to find the connectors? > ___________- Kelly--the alternator is on the left side of the engine--look at the main frame rail on the left. There is a cut-out section held in by two allen-head bolts and the alternator is right behind it. This section is provided for alternator removal and/or servicing. The two wires in question leave the top of the alternator, go up behind the main frame rail, and then connect into the main (fat) wiring harness, which runs just above and inside the frame rail. The main connector is a white plastic square jobber with two large spade lugs. Also, running along the inside of the rail is a metal hydraulic line (I think it's for the front ABS). The alternator wires route between the frame rail and this hydraulic line. These "bullet" connectors in question are between the alternator and the main white connector and they should be covered with black tape--if your harness is in good condition, it may look like nothing more than a "fat" spot in the harness. Here's what you do to inspect it: Remove the left belly cowling, the top tank cover and the left side cowling. Find the wires leaving the alternator, tug on them to find the main connector to the main wiring harness (should be just above the main rail). Disconnect them from the main harness. Use a screwdriver or other prybar to push the hydraulic line in to allow you to pull the connector down past the frame rail. At this point, you should have the alternator wires dangling in the breeze. Check the condition of your insulation/wires all along the length of this harness. If it all looks good--button the whole thing back together and ride! My problem was about half way along this harness, where it was hidden by the frame rail. Good luck and let me know by direct email. I've sent about two or three postings today, but never got them back from the list. Terry Baker (Terry_Baker@email.mot.com)
