Before you go running to put out big bucks for a bulb from PIAA, try the bulbs that are in the newer
Mercedes. Same thing for about $12.

Bob, The Piaa bulb that we are talking about is a 60/55 watt. It works
fine in a stock socket and puts out the equivalent of 110/100 watts of
light. They are available at Overlanders 1-800-288-4068. Ask for Ken.
The bulb you want is a H4 Piaa Super White. Cost is a bout $35.00 each.
Piaa makes several wattage's in this type of bulb, but I think it would
be a mistake to go to a higher than stock wattage with standard wiring
and switches.

I agree....$400 is high, but with competition prices will fall. Be careful
not to touch the bulb before installing it. If you remove the center console
(glovebox), then the left side black filler panel (under the left handle
bar), the installation is quite easy.

the headlight bulb than what is mentioned in both the Owner's Manual and the
 service manual? >>

You can get in from behind the handle bars. Remove the plastic in that area,
and you can get your hand in from the back. I've done it twice. A piece of
cake. Remove the boot covering the stem of the bulb and you can then see what
has to be done. Pull the electrical connection out exposing the cradle that
holds the bulb in place. Swing that out and the bulb is then easily removed.

You don't need to take baby apart to change the bulb. I can get to
my bulb and replace it simply by removing the radiator access
panel on the right side of the bike. It definitely helps if you use a
shop light to illuminate the bulb area while you watch what you're
doing by peering down over the top of your bike.
