I removed mine recently -- after fighting it for almost four years -- and it really makes fueling easy. I can squeeze almost .5 gal additional fuel. Remove the tank and empty and dry it well. If your hand isn't too large, you can reach inside the tank at the fuel pump opening. I wrap the "appendage" with duct tape and then tape on a large freezer bag--to contain metal filings. Use a cut off wheel either with a dremel tool or die grinder. You approach it from outside the tank as if you're filling it. You may have to reduce the diameter of your disk so it will fit inside the filler neck. Cut it at the bottom of the flange. After you cut it out, you obviously want to make sure that no metal filings are left in the tank. The whole job can be done in an hour or so and is well worth the effort. It is probably there to meet the emissions requlations? I really don't like this and would like to remove the whole piece. Has anyone done this? I kinda like the opening on the FJ1200 and other bikes, its large and makes it extremely easy to completely top off the tank quickly. Any comments?? Gary Hutchinson 93 GTS 1000
