Hi folks, I was going to punt on getting the front disk rotor cut, but then I found out that a new one costs... $430!!!!! That is about what they charge for the GTS front wheel itself. This is rediculous. I will have to figure out a way of getting it cut. After 70,000 miles, your discs are going to get scored too. Is there a way of getting a machinist to do this job, and what machinists would be able to? Thanks. -- \ | / \ | / \|/ \|/ Greg Christopher | | | | stork@best.com ---------------------------------------- I haven't really been following this but it seems like your disc (rotor) is scored or galled and you need to have it machined smooth. The first question is why? If your rotor is highly irregularly shaped then you have a problem, but if it's only a little rough but NOT BLUE, then you don't have to do ANYTHING. The first time you ride with the new pads, run in a parking lot and ease onto the brakes a few times to conform the pad to the shape of the rotor. If your rotor is blued or severely scored you will have to have it machined or replaced. The decision there should be based on how much mass is still left to dissipate heat from braking friction. Give me some specifics and I will try to help as much as I can using my mfg background. __________________________________________ Eric J. Kauffman, P. After participating in a CLASS session at Road Atlanta a couple of years ago, I came home with the front rotor scorched. Blue? I'm not sure, but it had definitely discolored a bit. After replacing the SBS pads with EBC blacks the performance was restored and the discoloration eventually scrubbed off after a few weeks. Any dangers here?
