Subject: Aluminum Ceramic Coating Importance: Normal A friend of mine did not like it when the pipes of his R1100RS turned blue. He found a place that will remove the original chrome (or paint, etc) and coat them by a process they call "Aluminum Ceramic Coating". Apparently this stuff is indestructible, doesn't turn blue, and comes in a variety of colors, from dull silver, to shiny black, purple, white, or whatever. It's also cheap: -$80. (Joe got a deal as one of the first customers and promised to tell people about them) --------------------------------------------------------- Eric, I called these people about the exhaust coatings. They're going to send us 2 packages of info about the coating process and available colors. The guy did say they only offer black, red, blue (I think), and the base dull-silver. He also said they coat the inside of the pipe as well as the outside. I asked them if this means the pipe will last forever. He said they do have a lifetime warranty for 3 years. (try to figure that one out! lifetime=3 years?!) He also said the colored coatings are a very thin layer on top of the base silver, so they are not very durable; they will chip off with use. But, the silver base coat can not be burned or beaten off with a hammer. It takes about 2 weeks of down time, with shipping and all included. Also, the pipes have to be cleaned regularly, like aluminum wheels, to avoid tarnishing. The coating is protective, but it is self-sacrificial; if uncleaned, it will develop pits & some discoloration (it can be color sanded, though). He also estimated $80 for a 4-into-1 pipe. Greg Wyatt
