Subject: Re: new Beta Alp and GTS front end alignment

I've put up a couple photos of my Beta Alp. I've had a wee bit of time
since we've just gotten 8" of snow two nights ago, and it looks like
we're in for another 6" tonight :( I had a couple of weeks of riding in
on the new bike.

The bike is slightly stripped down from the photo at www.betamotor.com.
The site is cobbled together from the GTS site form.

ob. GTS...I just finished putting back together the front end and all
the plastic and finished the front end greasing and
alignment.....grrr....that damn string just wouldn't stay on the tires.
Anyone planning on aligning their front end...remember this: Don't
listen to the instructions for wrapping the string around the tire and
spacing it off the rim. Instead set up two parallel strings the
requested 7.1" off the ground, equally space the left/right sides of the
rims (a & b are different numbers) before you do your camber adjusment.
   a a b
- -------------------------------------------------------
   =====                       =======
- --------------------------------------------------------
   a a b

The next tip, to do with precision is don't use the level like they show
you. It's not all that accurate. set the level visually vertical on
the rear and then the front disk and read the single bubble showing the
plumbness of the disk. The way they show it in the manual really lacks
the ability to precisely set vertical plumbness of the disk rotor.
